Wow! Another great view of the Front. Look at those canyons! I took this photo on one of the last days I was in Montana and I was still as impressed as I was on the first day. It's no wonder the Bitterroot Valley's population is booming. Below is the only warning sign we saw on any trail. Do you think that sign made any difference to us?
My adviser and Donald's professor, Christian Teyssier came and joined us for the last week. Here he is posing with Donald with Blodgett Canyon in the background. See? We didn't pay attention to the sign. The picture on the right shows the place I called home for three weeks. You could not ask for a better campsite. There were virtually no bugs, few people, a great source of clean flowing water and proneness to visits by Moose.
On one of our hikes with Chrsitian we climbed up a steep drainage in search of the contact between shear zone rocks and the unsheared rocks below them. The highest we got was the meadow on the right. You can see Christian in the left part of the picture. The left picture I took from the same meadow. It shows the other side of Fred Burr Canyon behind Donald and "Captain Christian." (Arrrrrgh, doesn't he look like a pirate?)
Finally, here are some action pictures. On the left, we have Donald and the Cap'n taking orientations of foliation planes with their trusty Brunton compasses. On the right we have Donald experiencing the reality that sometimes there isn't a bridge.
I'll leave you with an inspiring sight (I think Christian called it idyllic) captured not far from the above meadow.
