My Internship in Minnesota

Of my 10 week internship, I spent 7 weeks in the Twin Cities area. These pictures show what the other interns and I did for fun on several weekends. This photo above is on a hill above Red Wing, MN. We stopped there for a short hike on the way back from Mehgan's family place on Lake Pepin.

The University of Minnesota, East Bank of Minneapolis Campus was where I spent most of my time. Pillsbury Hall (above right) is the home of the geology department. The bridge shown here crosses the Mississippi.

Here are some group shots. The first was taken in the marina at Bayfield, WI (in the freezing cold). We went up to Wisconsin's northwoods and Superior's south shore on July 4th weekend. The people are Sonja, Beth, Jen, Andrea, and Monique. The second picture was taken at Lake Pepin, just over an hour south of St. Paul. We stayed in a house owned by Mehgan's grandparents in Lake City, MN. The people are Mark, Laura, Nicole, Mehgan, and Monique.

Northwest of Bayfield, we found a beautiful beach on Lake Superior with a short hike to spectacular sandstone cliffs. The photo at Subway was taken on the way up to the northwoods. The new person in that picture is second from left, Billy. Confession...I made some modification to that beach photo above. Can you tell what it was?

Here are the sandstone cliffs I mentioned. The other photo shows the back side of my car from Sonja's car taken on the highway in WI. That Toyota's no longer with us; it's met the business end of a crusher.

On the first weekend I was in Minnesota, Billy, Mark and I went camping on the north shore of Lake Superior. We hiked on the Superior hiking trail to this campsite set on a little hill above a lake. What you can't see in the photo are the bugs. The other picture is the incredible view of basalt cliffs and Lake Superior from Palisade Head.
